A Tradition of Caring and Support... for the Disabled and Elderly
March 18 -31, 2009 - Second Annual Memorial Run against abuse, care-rationing, and euthanasia of the seriously ill, the disabled and the ederly.
If you would like to join us in support of the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation, please make every effort to be part of the 2009 Terri Schiavo Memorial Run and attend the "Terri’s Day of Remembrance" Mass on March 31, 2009.
SUMMARY:
March 18, 2009 marks the beginning of the second annual Terri Schiavo Memorial Run which will depart from Durango, Colorado to the final destination of St. Petersburg, Florida on March 31, 2009; home of the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation. Upon arrival, all participants will be asked to attend the Terri's Day Remembrance Mass in the evening. Entire run will have 20+ stops along the way to visit the Harley-Davidson Dealerships "en route" (promoting awareness of the TSMR), and allowing for minor services, if needed (oil changes, batteries, plugs, etc.). There will be 3 scheduled major "hook-up" stops, to join up with the riders who are registered to meet us at any one of those three pre-determined stops. To view general route map showing the 3 major "hook-up" stops, click here for MS Office Word, or click here to view in PDF.
LODGING/ACCOMODATIONS/FUEL:
Motels, hotels and RV/Tenting will be listed in the Ride Planner, close to a daily stop, and riders are recommended to make their own lodging arrangemnts/reservations prior to departing on the Run. Food establishments, as much as possible to list, will also be listed in the Ride Planner. Fuel stops will be decided by the Cheif Road Captain along the way, and each rider will round off the dollar amount for their fuel purchases up to the next dollar. Any left over monies will go toward the Run's "Road Trip Fund" to help pay for any incidental costs along the way. All lodging/accomodation, food/beverages, fuel/motorcycle expenses, etc., are the sole responsibility of each individual Run participant. Some discounts will be offered for lodging/accomodation, and at certain restaurants, which will be announced prior to departure, and "en route". More information will be posted as it is received.
PROMOTIONAL ITEMS:
All promotional items sold prior to and during the Run will help with the expenses related to the Run.
RIDER SPONSORSHIPS:
Each registered participant will receive an "Rider Sponsor Sheet" and will attempt to collect as many sponsorships (financial contributions) as possible prior to Run departure, from their friends/co-workers/employers and family members. Proceeds from these sponsorships will benefit the disabled, the elderly and their families, with information, education and assistance, all in loving memory of Terri Schiavo.
THE PARTICIPANTS:
Some of us will be riding our motorcycles all the way, others will be "trailering it" while some will be flying in and renting a cage or motorcycle. No matter what mode of transportation you choose, the most important thing is to PARTICIPATE! People from all over the United States and Canada are expected be part of this memorable event; some from overseas, too! Please show your support for LIFE with your participation.
PURPOSE:
There has been a tremendous amount of world-wide media coverage during Terri's final fight to stay alive, yet she was sentenced by the courts to be put to death by starvation and dehydration! She wasn't a criminal being sentenced to death; she was a young woman who couldn't speak for herself. A grave injustice has been done to Terri and her loving family, and it is still happening to many others in similar situations! Her fight cannot be forgotten, lest we allow it! Join us on this Memorial Run promoting public awareness for The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation. Word On Wheels® will be donating 100% of all contributions received during this event to The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation in St. Petersburg, FL to support their efforts in promoting public awareness for the rights of the disabled, the elderly, and numerous vulnerable citizens in our country against abuse, care-rationing, and euthanasia; providing educational information, resourceful assistance, etc. Please make this run a priority out of all other runs/benefits you participate in for 2009. We need your help, support and participation, spreading awareness NATION WIDE if we are to prevent this from ever happening to anyone else! Let's keep Terri's Fight alive for the sake of those who can't speak for themselves!
This Memorial Run will be most symbolic for those of us who will be riding their motorcycles from the colder spots of North America. Yes, we will brave the cold weather, the wind, the snow at times, and the rain; perhaps even sleet! But that will be NOTHING compared to what our dear sister in Christ, Terri, had to suffer! She suffered a fate we can't even begin to comprehend! Our judicial system has more laws and compassion toward an animal being starved and dehydrated, than it ever had for Terri! Some folks think that March is too cold to be riding. Especially for those who will be traveling from areas of the United States and Canada where the winters have sub-zero temperatures. We are not asking you to ride in unsafe weather conditions! Please, use your complete discretion on this run. If you live in an area where the winters are severe and road conditions are too hazardous, then by all means trailer your bike. If you live in an area like Southwest Colorado or New Mexico then perhaps, weather permitting, you'll be able to start the Run on your motorcycle. For those who want to ride a motorcycle but don't have one, or they will be flying in from overseas, there is always the option of renting a motorcycle (it doesn't have to be a Harley, but the Durango Harley Davidson has some great looking rentals (mostly "tour bikes") for those wanting to enter at the beginning of the run and go "ALL THE WAY"! Just call Les Fine, or Mike, ahead of time at 970-259-0778 to make your reservation). If you are hooking-up with the Run at one of the 3 major stops and need a rental, call them ahead of time for a motorcycle reservation. If you still want to drive your "cage" on this Run, that's okay too. Everyone is encouraged to participate! If you can't participate in the Run but want to register anyway as your way of supporting the event, we suggest you sponsor the Run through the "Individual Sponsorship" option...that way we don't overcount the number of actual participants.
